Latin America’s Pacific Alliance researchers discuss future co-operation in climate change

ENSOCIO’s partner, National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT) made a presentation about the state-of-the-art public policy and scientific research on climate change in Chile.
The working meeting Opportunities for Collaborative Research on Climate Change in Countries of the Pacific Alliance took place on the 23rd and 24th of October in Viña del Mar, Chile. The meeting was attended by researchers on climate change and ministerial and National Science and Technology Organizations (ONCYTs) representatives from Chile, Mexico, Colombia and Peru. They analyzed regional strategies to tackle the challenges pose by climate change, including prevention and impact measurement, as well as the creation of an integrated network of scientists from the countries of the regional economic integration bloc.
The activity included presentations by governmental environment and science and technology representatives about public policy and research on climate change carried out in the Alliance’s countries. In addition to that, all 23 participating scientists made presentations about their respective lines of research and discussed future cooperation projects in the areas of mitigation, adaptability and the science of change as well as the design of funding instruments to support them. The results of the discussions held at the event will be reviewed by a technical committee of the Pacific Alliance with the view of designing a funding instrument to support research on climate change in the region.
